Discovery visit of the old town (3 mo.)

Obernai, a town that is internationally celebrated, prides itself on being the second most visited town in Bas-Rhin, Alsace (East of France), after Strasbourg, the European capital. Located on the Wine Route and tucked into the foot of the Vosges mountains and Mont Sainte Odile, Obernai is truly enchanting. This historic town was one of the Imperial towns which made up the Decapole and offers both its population of 11,504 and its visitors an impeccable setting and an excellent quality of life. Here you will find a harmonious balance between the urban town centre, within striking distance of all main facilities, and the countryside, which positively invites you to relax and enjoy your tranquil surroundings.
This Alsatian town’s charm is built on its ramparts, its traditional, half-timbered houses, its Belfry and its town centre, all steeped in history. You will be enchanted by its many aspects: it is a town of culture, sport, business, cuisine, history and flowers. Obernai is actually one of the “Most Beautiful Detours of France”.

25 km to the south-west of Strasbourg and 15 minutes from the International Airport, Obernai is ideally located at the heart of Alsace. The town centre is directly accessible from the main motorways and is on the Sélestat – Strasbourg train line, meaning that it is less than 3hrs from Paris thanks to the East European TGV. Every year, Obernai welcomes thousands of tourists who come to enjoy its cuisine, history, energy and festivals. In Obernai there really is something for everyone.
Obernai has a large range of accommodation on offer. The Tourist Information Office*** has no less than 2,700 beds registered, including self-catering accommodation, bed and breakfasts, hotels (from 2 to 4 stars), family guest houses, a VVF European holiday village and a 3 star municipal campsite.
Using a combination of culinary creativity and Alsatian cuisine, the restaurateurs of Obernai make everyone’s mouths water. In an authentic and warm, friendly setting, 11 winstubs will delight you with their regional specialities, such as the traditional sauerkraut, baeckeoffe and tartes flambées. There are also gastronomic restaurants boasting 2 Mitchelin stars, just waiting to be discovered.

Obernai boasts an impressive array of educational, commercial, sports and leisure facilities, which make it a particularly attractive town for all age groups.
All year long, Obernai is the scene of several not-to-be-missed cultural and sporting events: the Estivales, the International Triathlon, the Nocturne du Hans, the New Circus Festival, the BiObernai trade fair, the Autumn Festival, the traditional Christmas Market and many more. Obernai’s associations (more than one hundred) are also a testament to its vitality; they form an integral part of life in the town.
Obernai is an economic centre providing almost 8,000 jobs, making it one of the most dynamic examples of the Alsatian economy. Large companies such as Hager, the Kronenbourg Breweries, Triumph, CMO, Ebm Papst, Stoeffler, Supra, etc. have chosen to set up shop here, as well as a number of smaller family firms.
